Students and teachers at Shang Yin have been very busy these pastmonths preparing for our annual winter concert.
This year, every homeroom class chose a country to research and study. Students had the opportunity to learn about their countries history, geography, language, and people. They then took what they had learned and prepared a unique performance to showcase their chosen country’s unique culture.
Classes practiced for many weeks and were extremely creative in developing performances that involved a diverse collection of songs, dance, folk tales, and legends.
On Monday, December 4th, students shared their performance with the rest of the school. On Friday, December 8th, they performed for their parents. Year 1, Grade 1, and Grade 3 performed in the morning, while Grade 2, 4, and 5 performed in the afternoon. Student councilmembers were also quite helpful emceeing the performances, and running to let teachers and classes know that it was their turn to perform.
It was a whirlwind of brightly colored costumes, elaborate dances, and comical storytelling. Well done students and teachers!
During the concert there was a bake sale which was supplied and runby Shang Yin parents and volunteers. Proceeds from the bake sale and a special teddy bear sale went to support a Shanghai based charity called “Heart to Heart” which helps fund heart transplants for children who need it.
