This year Shangyin held its annual English Challenge Week from April 24th-28th. This week allows students to celebrate all of the progress they have made in English, as well as review some topics that they have learned over the course of the year.
Each day, students did activities which focused on a different area of English communication. On Monday, each grade did a reading activity. On Tuesday, they focused on listening activities.
Wednesday, the students each did a writing activity. On Thursday, students in each grade were paired with a buddy class from another grade, and students did different activities that focused on speaking. Finally, on Friday, students did a reflection activity, going over what they liked and did well over the course of the week.
The activities each grade did were based on a shared theme between buddy classes from 2 grades. For the Year 1s and Grade 4s, the theme was folk tales. The Grade 4s performed folk tales for the Year 1s, and then did writing and drawing activities with a buddy from the other grade.
The Grade 2’s and Grade 5’s theme focused on grammar and spelling. The grade 5s prepared a wide variety of fun quiz questions and then quizzed the grade 2s in a fun game activity.
It was wonderful to see how proficient our students are at using English to communicate, from the very young students in Year 1 to the Grade 4 and 5 role models. Great work students and teachers, it was a fun week celebrating English!
